“Stevenage has a fast, high-capacity road system, which makes it easy to make journeys by car. Residents have largely been insulated from the effects of traffic growth and congestion and generally there is little incentive for people to use modes other than the private car…Stevenage, with its extensive cycleway network, has largely the same level of cycling as other Hertfordshire towns, where facilities for cyclists are less developed. This seems to suggest that the propensity to cycle depends on factors other than the existence of purpose built facilities.”
One of the better outdoor activities in our area is Rail-Trail cycling! Built upon abandoned railbed, the trails are easy riding due to their gentle grades, and the scenery is terrific! Pennsylvania has more miles of rail-trails than just about any other state in the USA! These trails are safe for all ages and there is parking and food venues at various spots along the trail. Ideal bikes include "comfort" bikes, like the Women's Cannondale Adventure Hybrid shown in the picture. It's adjustable handlebars allow the rider to sit in an upright position and it's seat is wider and more padded than usual, and is mounted on a shock absorbing seatpost. And since it's a hybrid, it's bigger wheels roll more effeciently and smoothly than smaller sizes. We sell all the best brands, like Trek, Giant, and Cannondale. You may find you'll want a helmet, waterbottle, mileage counter, seat bag, and perhaps a headlight for the tunnels. And maybe you'll want to attend one of our free maintainence classes to learn how to fix flats and perform simple trail side repairs.
